The House that Wisdom Built – Pillar 7

The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true; they are righteous altogether. (Psalm 19:9Open Link in New Window)

Well it’s finally here.  The last pillar of Wisdom’s house, pillar 7 – Fear of the Lord.  As a reminder, we’ve been working from Isaiah 11:2Open Link in New Window and using the seven Spirits attributed to Jesus as the seven pillars of Wisdom’s house.

The Spirit of the LORD will rest on Him, The spirit of wisdom and understanding, The spirit of counsel and strength, The spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD. (Isaiah 11:2Open Link in New Window)

First, we’ll need to define “fear of the Lord”.  We’ve talked a little in previous posts about how fear of the Lord is reverent awe, but let’s take a second and look at both the desirous and undesirous types of fear. [Read more →]

The House that Wisdom Built – Pillar 6 (cont.)

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” (Proverbs 24:3-4Open Link in New Window)

A week or so ago we started digging into the sixth pillar of wisdom’s house – the Spirit of Knowledge – and we found that knowledge without love is useless, and love without knowledge can be harmful.  Knowledge allows us to put love into useful action so that it bears good fruit. But according to Proverbs 24:4Open Link in New Window, knowledge also fills the rooms of our house with rare and beautiful treasures! This week, we’ll see if we can find out how knowledge accomplishes that, and what exactly are the rare and beautiful treasures that knowledge provides. The House That Wisdom Built – Pillar 6

“By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.” (Proverbs 24:3-4Open Link in New Window)

So we’re up to pillar #6 in Wisdom’s house.  Let’s take a sec and recap.

A couple of months ago, we started this journey into spiritual house building with Proverbs 14:1Open Link in New Window “The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears hers down.”  That was my jumping off point.  That verse caused me to wonder… if the foolish woman tears her house down with her own hands, how exactly does the wise woman build hers up?  [Read more →]

The House that Wisdom Built – Pillar 5

“And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9Open Link in New Window)

It’s here! It’s here! It’s finally here!

For weeks now we’ve been working our way through the seven aspects of the Holy Spirit listed in Isaiah 11:2Open Link in New Window.  Today, we finally arrive at pillar #5 - the Spirit of Might. If you can’t already tell, I’m excited! This is the one pillar in our house where God gets to shine clear and bright and unmistakable, for everyone in the neighborhood to see. But – there’s a kicker. At least there is in my house. For me, the Spirit of Might is one of the easiest pillars to erect, but its the hardest for me to keep standing. Invariably, I knock the darn thing over almost as fast as I can stand it up. Maybe that’s why I got so much out of researching this one, and why I’m so excited to share what I learned. The House that Wisdom Built – Pillar 4 (cont.)

A wise man will hear and increase in learning,
And a man of understanding will acquire wise counsel (Proverbs 1:5Open Link in New Window)

The last few weeks we’ve been working our way through a discussion of the seven pillars of Wisdom’s house mentioned in Proverbs 9:1Open Link in New Window.  Last week we began looking at pillar #4, the Spirit of Counsel, and I think we made a good start by answering the question – what is wise counsel?  Now, we need to answer our second question - how do we go about seting up the Spirit of counsel as a pillar in our spiritual house?
